Once abundant in our region the paradise parrot was last seen in 1928 and is now considered extinct and the southern spotted quoll no longer calls Logan home and is near threatened everywhere else.
Are there any animals you remember being plentiful when you were growing up you just don’t see anymore?
Blocking in the composition and starting to detail the quoll’s face.
This work is drawn on Fabriano paper mounted on a birch wooden panel and varnished so no need for glass. It is framed and ready to hang.
Progress image of work on the parrot. This one was quite difficult to bring to life. I worked from about 6 reference images of parrots that had been stuffed to work out colours and patterns. I there referenced near cousins to get expression and bring life back to this extinct bird.
